This handbook provides basic information about corporal punishment of children – its definition, how common it is, why it is a fundamental breach of children’s human rights, how children feel about it and progress towards ending it. The handbook aims to help organisations and institutions develop campaigns to challenge all corporal punishment of children through public education and legal reform. Campaigns often meet strong resistance and a key section provides answers to arguments that are commonly raised in defence of corporal punishment.
