Independent evaluation of the Global Initiative
The report of an independent evaluation of the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children is available here. The evaluation was funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), supported by the Oak Foundation. The evaluation was carried out, and the report written, by Carol Bower, an independent children’s rights consultant based in South Africa. Paulo Pinheiro, who chaired an Advisory Group for the evaluation, writes in his foreword to the report:
“With nearly a quarter of the countries of the world having prohibited all corporal punishment of children, we have come a long way, but there is still a long way to go. This evaluation is timely and shows clearly that the GI has played a catalytic role in the escalation in the rate of prohibition. It shows also that the work of the GI is not yet done, and the outcome of the evaluation clearly recommends that it should be enabled to continue its good work.”
