This report on corporal punishment of children across Africa was originally published in April 2006 as a contribution to the UN Secretary General’s Study on Violence against Children; it was revised and updated in April 2007. The report covers:

• The international and regional human rights standards applicable in African states;
• Prevalence research and research on the views and experiences of children in Africa;
• Examples of the promotion of positive discipline in the region;
• A summary of the legality of corporal punishment in each African state.
