Global report tracking progress to December 2017 is out now!

As another big year in the journey to end all corporal punishment of children comes to a close, the Global Initiative, in collaboration with Save the Children Sweden, is delighted to present our annual global report tracking progress towards universal prohibition and elimination of corporal punishment to December 2017. The report, Ending legalised violence against children: Global progress to December 2017, highlights the major achievements of 2017 – most notably, 53 states and seven territories worldwide now prohibit all corporal punishment of children and another 56 states have clearly committed to doing so.

Designed to encourage and support action, the report also highlights the work that remains to be done – the states where corporal punishment is not fully prohibited in any setting, the states where corporal punishment remains lawful as a sentence for crime, and the number of children worldwide that do not enjoy equal protection under the law on assault.

Finally, the report provides an update on the work of the Global Initiative, and looks forward to what is coming up in 2018.
